Gene Rhee Finds Success Despite The Tough Market

The independent film market has declined in recent years due to the economic crash and the demise of several arthouse studios. Despite this slump, indie filmmakers such as Gene Rhee have been able to find success.

Shooting his film in only 2 weeks with no money, Gene Rhee used his passion and creativity to make “The Trouble With Romance.”  Bringing a fresh perspective, he fearlessly combined creative camerawork, heartfelt moments and gross-out humor to craft a crowd-pleasing movie.

Warner Bros. acquired distribution rights to Gene Rhee’s film after it became a fan favorite on the film festival circuit. It can be seen throughout the U.S. via Warner Bros’ partners, Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, DirectTV and EchoStar through On Demand digital cable, iTunes and Amazon VOD. This alternative form of distribution has become the new wave in independent cinema, and Rhee’s experience serves as an inspiration to other indie filmmakers.

Gene Rhee received his M.F.A. from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts’ Peter Stark Program. He also has a B.S. in Marketing & Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. The New Jersey-born Rhee currently lives in Marina del Rey, California.
