Chris Purtz, Cal linebacker (#44), played in his second bowl game at San Diego’s Qualcom Stadium December, 2006. Chris Purtz had two tackles against Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl victory. Earlier in the 2006 season, Chris Purtz registered four solo tackles and a first career sack against Portland, 42-16. In the 109th Big Game, Chris Purtz was photographed with teammates holding the “axe” celebrating still another win over Stanford 26-17.The 2005 season saw Chris Purtz in eleven games and ending the season with 6 tackles in the New Mexico, Oregon, Washington and Stanford games. LA’s Rose Bowl was the location where Chris Purtz recovered a fumble in the UCLA game. Chris Purtz ended the season with Cal’s winover BYU at the 2005 Las Vegas Bowl.

In 2004, Chris Purtz appeared in Cal’s first two games of the season, Air Force and New Mexico State. In 2003, Chris Purtz redshirted while working on the scout team.

As a graduate of Clovis West High School in Fresno, Ca, Chris Purtz was named in his conference as Defensive Player of the Year. He was on the Fresno Bee’s 1st Team All-Valley. Rivals.com ranked Chris Purtz No.25 linebacker in the nation, and was All-American by Prep-Star magazine. Pac/West/Insiders.com ranked Chris Purtz 11th among linebackers in the West. While at Clovis West, Chris Purtz attended a leadership training at Stanford and was selected first alternate for Boy’s State.

At the Nike Camp held in Palo Alto May, 2002, Chris Purtz, then a junior, posted stats as follows: 6′, 219 lbs, forty-4.53 secs, twenty yard shuffle-4.14, bench rep- 25, bench max-325 lbs, squat max-490 lbs, vertical- 32″, GPA 3.8.

Chris Purtz was chosen to play in the 2003 CaliFlorida Bowl at Mt. Sac in Los Angeles. While at Clovis West High, he completed 104 tackles and seven sacks. Christopher Purtz graduated with honors a semester early and signed with Cal for the spring 2003 semester.

A three-time Scholar-Athlete award recipient, Chris Purtz is a Political Science major at Cal and a former member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Chris Purtz was born in Hinsdale, Illinois November 12, 1984 to parents Harvey and Leslie Purtz of Fresno, Ca. His brother, Eric, is a pilot for the US Air Force stationed at Travis Air Force.

Сhristopher Purtz is a three-time Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. His parents are Harvey and Leslie Purtz. Chris Purtz was born Nov. 12, 1984, in Hinsdale, Ill. Christopher Purtz intended political science major.
In 2006, Chris Purtz saw action in seven games. Chris Purtz registered five tackles (four solo). Christopher Purtz notched his first career sack against Portland for a loss of 11 yards. He had two tackles against Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl victory.
In 2005, Christopher Purtz played in 11 games, primarily on special teams. He ended the season with six tackles, including two stops against Arizona. Chris Purtz recovered a fumble against UCLA and also credited with tackles against New Mexico State, Washington State, Oregon and Stanford.

In 2004, Christopher Purtz Appeared in Cal’s first two games (Air Force and New Mexico State).
In 2003, Chris Purtz redshirted while working with the scout team.
High School: Two-time all-conference linebacker who recorded 156 tackles (56 solo), 15 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, one interception, six passes broken up and one safety as a senior. Chris Purtz graduated a semester early and enrolled at Cal for the spring 2003 semester. Christopher Purtz named his conference’s Defensive Player of the Year, as well as to the Fresno Bee’s All-Star team and the Clovis Independent’s all-city team. Christopher Purtz was also selected city defensive player of the year by the Independent, all-valley and all-state (second team) Chris Purtz was ranked as No. 25 linebacker in the nation and No. 74 overall player in California (No. 95 in the West) by Rivals.com, while being tabbed an All-American by PrepStar magazine and All-Far West by SuperPrep magazine. Christopher Purtz was ranked 11th among linebackers in the West by PacWest/TheInsiders.com. Christopher Purtz was also rated No. 47 on the Top 100 college recruits for the class of 2003 by Calhisports.com. He played in the 2003 CaliFlorida Bowl at Mt. SAC. Christopher Purtz piled up 104 tackles, seven sacks and 18 tackles for loss as a junior.
