While some kids have soccer moms, Beth Shak kids can brag that their mom is a bona fide professional poker player, who has landed a place on the Women’s All Time Money List with winnings in excess of $450,000.

Despite her glamorous life as one of the leading ladies of Poker, Beth Shak is, without a doubt, a mom first, a poker player second.  “There is nothing more enjoyable to me than spending time with them,” she says. “Pleasure for me can be taking a cooking class with my girls.”

Her sons are also very supportive of their mom’s poker playing and are grateful to have a mother who enjoys competition as much as they do. “I am very flattered that my boys will accept me into their boy’s games. I am a very lucky woman,” adds Beth.

Since poker is such a big part of Beth’s life, her kids have naturally taken to it as well. “Sometimes we take an evening and have a family poker tournament,” shares Beth Shak.

Thoughts of her family are never far from Beth’s mind. At the 38th WSOP where she faced off against Phil Hellmuth in the final table, Beth Shak was eager to share her success with her kids.

“I kind of thought I was going to win an event. I didn’t, I came in second, but I left saying to my older kids, — If Mom does well, you guys all promise me you’ll fly out at the drop of a hat if I call you in the middle of the night.”

Beth blazed onto the poker scene 4 years ago, and has since been cashing at major tournaments, including 2 World Poker Tour events and 5 World Series of Poker events. Her remarkable rise in professional poker has earned her the sponsorship of Full Tilt Poker.
